West Virginia reports 2,428 active COVID cases, no new deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 2,428 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 295 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (47), Barbour (14), Lewis (40), Randolph (31) and Webster (10) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases in the last 24 hours. 

No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 8, 2022, there are currently 2,428 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There were no deaths reported to DHHR over the last 24 hours, and total deaths remain at 7,069 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 285 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 45 currently in intensive care and 10 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 8.64%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
