West Virginia reports 2,146 active COVID cases, 14 new deaths on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 2,146 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 38 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (44), Barbour (7), Lewis (39), Randolph (32) and Webster (5) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of three active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Fourteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – of a 73-year old male from Berkeley County, a 78-year old female from Harrison County, a 72-year old male from Cabell County, a 70-year old male from Raleigh County, a 79-year old female from Wyoming County, a 64-year old female from Wyoming County, a 95-year old female from Kanawha County, a 74-year old male from Mineral County, an 86-year old female from Raleigh County, a 73-year old female from Fayette County, a 74-year old female from Wood County, a 60-year old male from Mercer County, an 83-year old female from Kanawha County, and an 82-year old female from Clay County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 1, 2022, there are currently 2,146 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 14 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,962 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 165 residents are hospitalized with the virus (58% unvaccinated, 42% vaccinated), with 23 currently in intensive care (74% unvaccinated, 26% vaccinated) and 9 on a ventilator (78% unvaccinated, 22% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 10.31%. 

A total of 978,892 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 55% of the state. About 500,185 booster doses have been administered.
