West Virginia reports 2,135 active COVID cases, two new deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 2,135 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 211 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (36), Barbour (23), Lewis (22), Randolph (25) and Webster (10) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of eight active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 81-year old male from Preston County and a 67-year old female from Raleigh County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 24, 2022, there are currently 2,135 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been two deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,056 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 196 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 23 currently in intensive care and six on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 12.35%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
