West Virginia reports 211 new COVID-19 cases, three additional deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 211 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Lewis (3) and Randolph (6) counties.

A total of 18 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 91-year old female from Berkeley County, a 74-year old male from Wayne County, and a 63-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 10, 2021, there have been 2,795,243 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 156,617 total cases and 2,729 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,983 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 146,905 people have recovered and 2,729 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.62%.

A total of 680,025 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 38% of the state.
