West Virginia reports 2,105 active COVID cases, five new deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 2,105 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 91 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (41), Barbour (11), Lewis (18), Randolph (18) and Webster (13) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of six active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 71-year old male from Pleasants County, a 94-year old female from Wood County, an 82-year old female from Cabell County, an 88-year old female from Pleasants County, and a 96-year old female from Ohio County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 30, 2022, there are currently 2,105 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been five deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,064 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 216 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 29 currently in intensive care and four on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 6.61%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
