West Virginia reports 1,325 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 1,325 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 18 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (25), Barbour (9), Lewis (8), Randolph (11) and Webster (3) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of three active cases in the last 48 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 82-year old male from Marshall County, a 90-year old female from Marion County, a 69-year old female from Fayette County, and a 69-year old female from Kanawha County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 11, 2022, there are currently 1,325 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,886 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 127 residents are hospitalized with the virus (55% unvaccinated, 45% vaccinated), with 27 currently in intensive care (59% unvaccinated, 51% vaccinated) and 13 on a ventilator (62% unvaccinated, 38% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 5.54%. 

A total of 975,741 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. About 479,432 booster doses have been administered.
