West Virginia reports 11,057 active COVID-19 cases, 15 new deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 11,057 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 434 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (141), Barbour (126), Lewis (82), Randolph (162) and Webster (55) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of 14 active cases in the last 24 hours.

Fifteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 82-year old female from Raleigh County, a 76-year old female from Mason County, a 41-year old male from Monongalia County, a 73-year old female from Fayette County, a 71-year old female from Mason County, a 91-year old male from Monongalia County, a 72-year old male from Mason County, a 72-year old male from Monongalia County, a 62-year old male from Mason County, a 73-year old female from Berkeley County, an 88-year old male from Hardy County, a 61-year old female from Mingo County, a 62-year old female from Monongalia County, a 71-year old male from Wyoming County, and a 79-year old female from Wood County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of February 3, 2022, there are currently 11,057 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 15 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 5,829 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 1,061 residents are hospitalized with the virus (68% unvaccinated, 32% vaccinated), with 233 currently in intensive care (79% unvaccinated, 21% vaccinated) and 126 on a ventilator (86% unvaccinated, 14% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 15.62%.

A total of 952,457 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 53% of the state. Of those, 384,682 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
