West Virginia crosses 50,000 COVID-19 case mark on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 1,120 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (7), Barbour (17), Lewis (7), Randolph (11) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 86 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR. Thursday’s update:

  • Removed one probable case from Nov. 28
  • Removed two probable cases from Nov. 30
  • Removed two probable cases from Dec. 1
  • Added nine probable and three confirmed cases to Dec. 2

Eleven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old male from Berkeley County, a 56-year old female from Berkeley County, an 83-year old male from Marshall County, an 81-year old male from Marshall County, a 91-year old female from Boone County, a 77-year old male from Hancock County, a 51-year old male from Wood County, an 87-year old male from Mineral County, a 79-year old female from Mineral County, an 85-year old male from Greenbrier County, and a 73-year old female from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., December 3, 2020, there have been 1,163,674 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 51,025 total cases and 789 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 17,428 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 32,808 people have recovered and 789 have died. The daily percent positive was 6.94%.
