Wesleyan’s Witt named MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – The Mountain East Conference has announced this week’s Male and Female MEC Basketball Players of the Week. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Emma Witt was chosen as the MEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while Concord’s Kollin Tolbert is the MEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks and third time this season.
 
Tolbert, a 6-2 junior guard from Cincinnati, Ohio, averaged 28 points and 9.3 rebounds a game while shooting a blistering 26-of-27 from the foul line as the surging Mountain Lions stretched their winning streak to six games with a 3-0 week. Tolbert got his week off to a flying start with a 32-point explosion to key a 104-95 win over Bluefield State. He followed that up with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double to key a 98-84 victory against Salem on Wednesday before scoring all 10 of Concord’s points in a game-ending 10-2 run that lifted the Mountain Lions past Point Park, 69-61, on Saturday. He finished the day with 32 points and 9 rebounds.
 
Witt, a 5-9 junior forward from Staunton, Va., continued to light up the scoreboard for the Bobcats as Wesleyan posted a 3-0 week to improve 16-5 on the season. Witt averaged 20.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as the Bobcats defeated Wheeling, 57-52; West Liberty, 61-53, and Warren Wilson, 96-43. Witt highlighted her week with a 25-point, 12-rebound double-double at West Liberty and was 15-of-17 from the foul line for the week.
