A piano concert open to the public is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Loar Auditorium.
Guest pianist Dr. Gabriel Merrill-Steskal’s program includes works by Chopin and Beethoven and etudes by Scriabin, Stravinsky and American composer Michael Kropf, according to a release from the college.
Assistant Professor of Music Lyndon Ji, who joined Wesleyan’s faculty this year, will play alongside Merrill-Steskal for music by George Gershwin from the Great American Songbook. The two will use Logan Skelton’s arrangements for piano four-hands.
At New Mexico Highlands University, Merrill-Steskal teaches piano, music history and music theory as an assistant professor of piano and industry. He earned his doctorate in piano performance at the University of Michigan, studying piano with Skelton and fortepiano with Matthew Bengtson.
Wesleyan music students will also attend a master class led by Merrill-Steskal in Loar Auditorium.
