Wesleyan’s Hansford named MEC Indoor Track Performer of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – West Virginia Wesleyan’s Michael Hansford and Concord’s Emily Wallace were voted the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
 
The MEC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Hansford, a freshman from District Heights, Md., broke the West Virginia Wesleyan school record in the triple jump on Saturday, recording a distance of 14.63 meters. The result also hit an NCAA provisional mark. Hansford currently ranks 29th nationally and first in the conference in the event.
 
Wallace, a graduate student from Dry Fork, Va., broke Concord’s school record in the 3,000-meter run, turning in a time of 10:11.74 at the VMI Invitational over the weekend. At the event, Wallace finished sixth but was the first DII runner to cross the finish line. She currently has the fastest time in the Mountain East Conference and Atlantic Region this winter.
