WHEELING — The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s cross country teams completed their 2023 seasons at the Mountain East Conference championships at Oglebay Park, Saturday.
The women earned conference awards with Leigha Hall taking fifth place to claim First-Team All-Conference and Mariam Al-Zoubi finishing in15th place for Second-Team All-Conference.
Coach Kelsey Chambers said, “I am so proud of our women’s team today. We spoke about running the perfect race, which meant running a race you are 100% proud of and you could leave knowing you left everything out there. And those girls did that today!
“Leigha Hall ran such a confident race and I am so proud of how much she has grown as not only a runner but as a person. Mariam Al-Zoubi ran such a tough race today and really put herself up there, being the third fastest freshman. I’m excited to see her continue to grow.”
Referencing the men’s race, Chambers said, “On the men’s side we came up short of our team goal but every single one of them ran so tough and left it all out there. I’m very proud of them and excited to see them at regionals. Kent Niland and Evan Pyles both finished top 30 and I’m proud of how much they put themselves out there with such a stacked field.”
