ATHEN — Despite two goals and a strong start, the Bobcat women’s soccer team fell 4-2 to Concord University in its first road and Mountain East Conference (MEC) match of the 2025 season. The Lady Bobcats move to 1-1-1 (0-1-0 MEC), while the Mountain Lions notch their first win of the season to improve to 1-2-0 (1-0-0 MEC).

The advantage was short-lived, however, as Concord’s Tiana Campbell responded just 21 seconds later, capitalizing on an assist from Molly Watters. The Mountain Lions then surged ahead in the 20th minute when Stephanie Tovar finished a well-placed through ball from Ella Rowell and Caitlin Webster, sending Wesleyan into the break, down 2-1.
The Lady Bobcats found life early in the second half. In the 51st minute, sophomore defender Carlie Ice netted her first goal of the season with a composed finish set up by Isabella Mazza, bringing the match level at 2-2
Concord quickly regained momentum. A well-struck goal from Alana Ferguson in the 75th minute, assisted by Jessica Neville, put the Mountain Lions back on top. Just two minutes later, Campbell converted a penalty kick—her second goal of the day—to extend the lead to 4-2.
Concord outshot Wesleyan 16-5 and held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Lady Bobcats managed only one shot on frame in the second half, while Concord pressed relentlessly with nine second-half shots, forcing five total saves from goalkeeper Maite Coutinho.
Alexander, Ice, and Kamryn Cox each registered shots on goal for the Bobcats. Both teams were evenly matched physicality, each recording 14 fouls. A yellow card was issued to Wesleyan’s Mia Rodriguez in the 82nd minute.
Wesleyan returns to work on Wednesday, Sept. 17 when the team travels to Davis &Elkins College for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
