BRIDGEPORT — The final day of the Mountain East Conference women’s basketball season concluded on Saturday, settling the seeds and pairings for next week’s MEC Basketball Tournament, presented by The Health Plan, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
The top 10 teams in the MEC women’s basketball standings qualify for the five-day tournament, and the top six seeds receive a bye. Competition begins Wednesday, March 4, at noon when No. 7 seed Frostburg State plays No. 10 seed Point Park.
Glenville State, which is 22-5 overall and finished 16-4 in MEC play, is the league’s regular season conference champion. The Lady Pioneers enter postseason play winning eight of their last 10 games.
West Virginia Wesleyan is the No. 2 seed, with an overall record of 18-6 and 15-5 in league play. The No. 3 seed is the University of Charleston while Concord is the No. 4 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker. Fairmont State, last year’s tournament champion, is the No. 5 seed.
The No. 6 seed belongs to Wheeling with Frostburg State claiming the No. 7 seed. West Virginia State is the No. 8 seed, while West Liberty is the No. 9 seed, and Point Park is the No. 10 seed.
