The top 10 teams in the MEC women’s basketball standings qualify for the five-day tournament, and the top six seeds receive a bye. Competition begins Wednesday, March 5, at noon when No. 7 seed West Virginia State plays No. 10 Point Park, the latter of which is an MEC newcomer this season.
Fairmont State, which is 24-4 overall and finished 17-3 in MEC play, is the league’s regular season conference champion. The Falcons enter postseason play with a six-game winning streak.
West Virginia Wesleyan is the No. 2 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker, while Wheeling — winners of four in a row — will be the No. 3 seed. Frostburg State is the No. 4 seed and boasts Division II leading scorer Emilee Weakley (28.0 points per game), the MEC’s reigning Player of the Year. The Bobcats will face No. 5 Concord on Thursday, with the Mountain Lions moving up two seed lines on the final day after defeating Glenville State, 99-75.
Glenville State is the No. 6 seed, followed by No. 7 West Virginia State, No. 8 Charleston, No. 9 West Liberty, and No. 10 Point Park. WVSU and UC finished tied in the standings, but the Yellow Jackets held the tiebreaker edge.
