BRIDGEPORT — West Virginia Wesleyan claimed a season sweep of Salem University Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over the winless Tigers (0-8-0).
As it was in the first match of the year, Salem’s Sarah Cabera was the Tiger’s star, keeping the Lady Bobcat goal tally from exploding. She recorded 12 saves on Wesleyan’s 20 shots (14 on goal) and got in the way of many other crossing attempts while the Lady Bobcats possessed the ball for most of the 90 minutes.
On the other side of the ball, Maggie Queen and Hannah Dietrich both scored their second goals of the season. Queen’s came in the 14th minute on a feed from Emma Pankiewicz and Dietrich scored 11 minutes into the second half (55:39) on a pass from Kamryn Cox.
Wesleyan’s Paige Miller returned to mind the net and recorded a single save on Salem’s only shot.
The Bobcats (3-4-1, 1-3-1) host West Liberty University (2-5-1, 1-3-1) as part of a soccer twin bill on Sunday, Oct. 6. The women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men play at 3 p.m.
