Wesleyan swimmers win home dual outing with Bethany

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan swim program returned to the Natatorium on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday (Oct. 29) evening and welcomed Bethany to the pool.

On the women’s side, Annalise Gentilozzi placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 12:45.29. Jennifer Williams had another successful day coming in first in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 35.85 and Ashley Downes coming right behind with a time of 40.44. In the 50 yard freestyle, Morgan Bennet had another great performance coming in first with a time of 27.38. Alayna Crane and Alienor Dalle took over the 100 yard freestyle with Crane coming in first with a time of 58.67 and Dalle in second at 1:04.50. Crane was not done yet as she continued her amazing performance picking up first in the 100 yard backstroke, completing the race at 1:08.68 and Lillie Archer right behind her at 1:10.20. Dalle, Gentilozzi, and Abdelsalam ran the show in the 50 yard butterfly with times coming in at 29.32, 30.81, and 32.26. Crane and Gentilozzi continued their great afternoon performance with Crane coming in first at 1:08.28 and Gentilozzi behind her at 1:14.30. The Bobcats’ 800 yard free relay team of Archer, Crane, Gentilozzi, and Bennet finished off an unbelievable afternoon, capping off the race at 9:08.29.

For the men, Stephen Groves placed first in the 50 yard free at 24.20. Ben Esposito joined in on the victory when he placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.65. Esposito, the graduate student, added another first place victory to his name in the 50 yard butterfly coming in with a quick time of just 26.99. Jack Gutekunst, the freshman from New Jersey, came out on top in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 58.71 which was just enough to clinch victory against his opponent.

The women’s team defeated Bethany by a score of 184-40, while the men were also victorious 104-71.

The WVWC swimming team will return to the pool on Friday (Nov. 4) at 6 p.m. for a meet versus Malone in Buckhannon.
