ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team lost both games of their doubleheader on the road Wednesday afternoon at Davis & Elkins. D&E won both game 3-2 as Wesleyan opened each game up with the lead but the Senators were able to come back and win both.

Game 1
Wesleyan’s Alli Robinson started the top of the second off with a single and Andie Dizon reached on an error. Kaitlyn Rizor loaded the bases with a single up the middle and Kiley Turner broke the scoreless start with a two-run double.

In the bottom of the third, D&E put two runners on via error and a single, setting up a three-run home run by Linzey Allard that gave the Senators the 3-2 lead. The Bobcats continued to put runners in scoring position but couldn’t capitalize off of it. Wesleyan went down in order to end the game in the top of the seventh.

Alyssa Haynes had two hits on the day and Allard’s home run was what boosted the Senators to the win. Alexa Uphold took the win, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits, two walks and striking out two.

Kiley Turner had both RBIs for the Lady Bobcats and Alyssa Souders went 2-3 at the plate. Hannah Hudson was given the loss after six innings, three runs (two earned) on six hits and seven strikeouts.

Game 2
Just like the first game, the Lady Bobcats got on the board in the top of the first. Taylor Swartz singled and Morgan Norris doubled in the right-center gap, allowing Robinson to get the sacrifice fly to deep center field. A single and a throwing error put a runner in scoring position for the Senators in the bottom of the 2nd, tying the game up with a one-run single two batters later.

Davis & Elkins took the lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth and added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two out, one-run double. Wesleyan cut into the deficit with an one-run single from Maya Reyes in the top of the seventh and was able to get Reyes in scoring position with two outs. The game ended on a strikeout as D&E picked up their second 3-2 win of the day.

Anjolina Gutierrez had two hits and knocked in a run to lead the Senators. Maddie Lavelle and Kailynn Parks also added a RBI each. Vanessa Hunt picked up her eighth win of the season, going the distance and allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits and one walk. She struck out five and hit a batter as well.

Swartz was the only Lady Bobcat with two hits as Robinson and Reyes had a RBI apiece. Kendall Stoffel took just her second loss of the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings and surrendering three runs (all earned) on eight hits and walking two.

Up Next For The Lady Bobcats
Wesleyan heads to Wheeling on Saturday for a doubleheader (1 & 3 p.m.) and then will take the short trip over to West Liberty for a Sunday doubleheader (2 & 4 p.m.).
