Webster County man among seven new COVID-19 deaths reported in West Virginia on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 7,579 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 562 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (171), Barbour (86), Lewis (79), Randolph (202) and Webster (30) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of six active cases in the last 24 hours.

Seven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 69-year old male from Raleigh County, a 64-year old male from Putnam County, a 91-year old male from Jackson County, an 85-year old male from Webster County, an 83-year old female from Mason County, a 71-year old female from Cabell County, and an 81-year old female from Marion County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 18, 2021, there have been 3,246,888 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 175,639 total cases and 2,997 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 7.3%.

A total of 895,983 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 50% of the state.
