West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner described the November 3 general election as smooth, reporting 228 voter calls to his office and about 120 high school students working at the polls statewide.
Public canvassing begins Monday, November 9. Warner’s office said the public can watch provisional and later-received absentee ballots being processed, along with a hand-count audit of paper ballots from at least 3% of each county’s precincts.
“Thank you to our county clerks, election staff, and poll workers for their hard work and dedication throughout Election Day. Their commitment, long hours, and service to our citizens help ensure fair and transparent elections,” Warner said in a November 3 release.
Warner said most voter calls were resolved quickly. Reported problems included electioneering zone violations and a water main break that cut power at a polling location. He said officials moved voting to adjacent polling places, put up signs and kept voting going without delay.
The release said this was the first election in which eligible high school juniors and seniors could work the polls. The students who served were 16 and 17.
