Walter Joseph McCoy

Walter Joseph McCoy, 82, of Tallmansville, W.Va., died Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at his home.

He was born March 11, 1938, in Tampa, Fla., a son of the late Walter and Mary Helen Sullivan McCoy.

He is survived by his friends, Tim Lewis and wife Beverly of Buckhannon, Kenny Queen and wife Susan of Huntington, W.Va. and Mike O’Hara and Mary Ann of Queens, W.Va., and his beloved dog, Merriwether.

Mr. McCoy served in the U.S. Marines. He was a State Prison Commissioner under J. Rockefeller.

Mr. McCoy was a Professor and a Christian by Faith. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and reading.

Friends will be received Sunday, November 1, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery in Queens, W.Va. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the gravesite.
