W. Kathryn Carpenter

W. Kathryn Carpenter, 95, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Monday, July 27, 2020, at Holbrook Health Care Center in Buckhannon.

She was born March 7, 1925, in Philippi, W.Va., a daughter of the late James Delbert and Octavia Catherine Baughman Boyles.

On July 14, 1945, she married James R. Carpenter who preceded her in death on March 12, 2001.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Wanda Humphreys, Helen Marsh, Nova Phillips, and Dorotha Thorn and one brother, George W. Boyles.

She is survived by one daughter, Pam Gillespie and husband Mike of Buckhannon; one son, Dr. James Richard “Rick” Carpenter and wife Alice of Westminster, Md.; two granddaughters, Dr. Kara Blevins and husband Dr. Marshall Blevins (deceased) of Ashland, Ky. and Dr. Elizabeth Carpenter-Song and husband Arnold of Canaan, N.H.; three grandsons, Kurt Gillespie and wife Melissa of Kingwood, W.Va., David Carpenter and wife Stephanie of Westminster and Scott Carpenter and wife Julia of Reston, Va.; six great-granddaughters, Leah and Rachel Blevins both of Ashland, Madeline Song of Canaan, Peyton Gillespie of Kingwood, Lauren Carpenter of Westminster and Kate Carpenter of Reston; four great-grandsons, Jack and Bobby Carpenter both of Westminster, Jessie Carpenter of Reston and Grant Gillespie of Kingwood and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carpenter was a Personnel Director for the West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the St. Joseph’s Auxiliary where she volunteered for 15 years in the outpatient department.

Friends will be received Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
