Volleyball Little Lady Bucs record wins over Notre Dame and Mountaineer

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs won two home matches last week. They defeated Notre Dame in straight sets (25-8 and 25-12) and then knocked off Mountaineer Middle in three sets (25-17, 24-26, and 25-11).

In their win against Notre Dame, Kristine Frye led the team in kills with three, Jayla Westfall paced the team in assists with four while Jaylee Wayts served up nine aces.

Against Mountaineer Middle, Madelynn Tucker led the team in kills with three and in blocks with two, Westfall had a team-high four assists and Frye and Pyper Mazarek each had two aces.

In junior varsity action, the Little Lady Bucs downed Mountaineer in straight sets – 26-24 and 26-24.

The two wins left the varsity team with a 3-4 record.

“These were good wins for us,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Sheena Westfall. “The Mountaineer Middle game was our first win in a three-set match, so it was nice to have a goal reached for the team. In both games, we had more hustle plays and more offensive attacks going.”

B-UMS were slated to play Elkins on Monday and Bridgeport on Wednesday.

The team will be back in action Saturday at the Washington Irving Tournament.
