Volleyball Lady ‘Cats tumble on the road at West Virginia State, 3-0

INSTITUTE — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats traveled to West Virginia State Friday night for another conference matchup during their 2023 campaign. After coming off a loss to Concord University in their previous conference matchup, the Lady Bobcats would be looking to get their first win in conference and snap their five game losing streak.

The Lady Bobcats remained in their slump and lose to the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets, falling to 4-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference.

During this match between the Yellow Jackets, the Lady Bobcats got off to a very slow start which would lead to them losing the first set, 25-14. The West Virginia State Yellow Jackets were led by Diamond’Nique Young, who finished the game with 13 kills, showing her dominance throughout the entire match. This sluggish start would carry over into the entire match leading to the Lady Bobcats losing set two, 25-11 and set three, 25-9.

The Yellow Jackets were dominant throughout this match and shut down any comeback that the Lady Bobcats had in mind. In defeat the Lady Bobcats were led by Jayla Cowherd and Makenzie Yates who combined for 10 kills. They were also assisted by Sophie Gerlach who finished this match with 11 assist.

The Lady Bobcats will continue their campaign against Davis and Elkins on Tuesday Oct.10 at 7 p.m. in Rockefeller Center.
