Volleyball Lady ‘Cats go 2-2 at Concord Tournament

ATHENS – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats traveled down to Concord University to participate in their last tournament weekend before MEC play begins in the beginning of October. They went 2-2 beating Bluefield State University and Pikeville, while falling to Davis and Elkins and Virginia State University. The team currently sits at 9-4 and will look to take their momenteum into conferecne play.

Bluefield State University: 3-0
A clean sweep in game one proved to show balance offensively and defensively for the Lady Bobcats. Offensively, Olivia Albrecht led the team with 15 kills followed by Jayla Cowherd and Bhrooke Axe with seven kills each. Axe also reedcord six blocks in game one. Faith Grafton led the back line with 10 digs as well as five serving aces. Alexis Moeschler recorded nine digs and setter, Jalynn West collected seven digs along with her 35 assists.

Davis and Elkins: 2-3
The Lady Bobcats would get to face the Senators of Davis and Elkins, a conference rival, early in the year. Each team battled back and forth alternating winning sets until Davis and Elkins took set five, 15-9. Key performers for the Lady Bobcats included Emily Denison with 13 kills and four blocks. Bhrooke Axe record ed 11 kills and three blocks. Alexis Moeschler had 15 digs and 2 serving aces.

Pikeville: 3-1
Weslyean lost a close first set 25-23, but then came back to win the next three sets, ending the match in set four winning 25-23. Senior Jayla Cowherd and sophmore Olivia Albrecht led the Lady Bobcats offensively with 14 kills each. Alexis Moeschler recorded a season high 26 digs as well as three aces and six assists. Emily Denison contributed defensively with 11 digs and five blocks. Setter Jalynn West tallied 46 assists.

Virginia State University: 0-3
The Lady Bobctas closed out the weekend against a tough CIAA opponent in the Trojans of Virginia State. Sets one and three would both be lossed by a two-point scoring deferential and proved to be a toughly played match by both teams. Bhrooke Axe and Sabrina Carleton led the Lady Bobcats with seven kills each. Alauna Wilson recorded three serving aces as well as six kills. Alexis Moeschler recorded 12 digs, one ace and three assists.

The Lady Bobcats will face the Tigers of Salem University for the third time this season at Salem on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
