Vandalia Health’s Webster Memorial Hospital launches telecardiology services improving rural cardiac care

Vandalia Health’s Webster Memorial Hospital, in partnership with Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, proudly unveiled a new telecardiology service designed to bring specialized cardiac care closer to home for area residents. The new service was inaugurated Dec. 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hospital.

The event featured remarks from health care leaders Bill Dempsey, Chief Administrative Officer of Webster Memorial Hospital; Ron Andro, Senior Vice President at Davis Health System; and Lauren Smith, Director of Ancillary Services at Webster Memorial. The speakers highlighted the critical role telecardiology plays in addressing health care disparities in rural communities, where access to specialized care often requires long-distance travel.

Dr. Morgan Lyons, a board-certified cardiologist with Mon Health and Davis Health systems, will now provide virtual consultations from the hospital via a secure telehealth connection on the fourth Friday afternoon of every month. This expanded service offers patients timely access to expert cardiac care, enabling earlier diagnosis and treatment without the need to leave their community.

“Telecardiology is a game-changer for our region,” Dempsey said. “This service ensures that everyone in our community can receive life-saving cardiac care without the burden of extensive travel. It is a testament to our ongoing commitment to improving health care access in rural areas.”

“Rural health care comes with unique challenges, but telecardiology bridges the gap,” Smith said. “This service allows us to better serve our patients and improve outcomes by making expert care readily available.”

Webster Memorial Hospital and Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center are part of Vandalia Health System, dedicated to delivering innovative, patient-centered health care solutions statewide and throughout the region.
