Vandalia Health is pleased to welcome Shayla Koerner, MD, to its Davis Medical Center Primary Care team, according to a press release from the health system.
Koerner is a board-certified family medicine physician who recently completed her family medicine residency at West Virginia University, where she also served as chief resident. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Her clinical interests include comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, preventive medicine, women’s health and obstetric care.
“Dr. Koerner brings outstanding training, leadership experience, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care,” said Ron Andro, Senior Vice President of Davis Health System and Chief Administrative Officer of Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center. “Her return to serve the community where she grew up reflects the heart of our mission — delivering quality care close to home. We are thrilled to welcome her to Davis Medical Center.”
“Coming back to Elkins to care for the community that helped shape me is incredibly meaningful,” Koerner said. “Family medicine allows me to build long-term relationships with patients and care for individuals and families at every stage of life. I’m honored to join the Vandalia Health team and look forward to serving this area.”
Adding a special personal connection, Koerner is the daughter of longtime and celebrated Davis Medical Center nurse Arvela Koerner, RN.
“As a nurse here at Davis Medical Center for 50 years, to now watch my daughter begin her physician career here is incredibly special,” Arvela Koerner said. “I’m proud of the doctor she’s become and grateful she’s bringing her talents back home.”
“Having Arvela Koerner serve our patients as a dedicated nurse for so many years and now welcoming her daughter, Dr. Shayla Koerner, as a physician is truly special for our Davis Medical Center family,” said Diana Landsverk, RN, BSN, MBA, Chief Nursing Officer, Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center and Davis Health System. “It reflects the deep roots our health system has in this community and the generational commitment to caring for our neighbors. Stories like the Koerners’ are a powerful reminder of why community-based health care matters so much.”
Koerner will begin seeing patients this month at Davis Family Practice, located at 812 Gorman Ave. in Elkins. To make an appointment, call 304-637-3894.
