Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital honors Johnson with DAISY Award for nursing excellence

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital proudly recognizes Cieara Johnson, RN, as the latest recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, an international recognition program that honors nurses for the compassionate and skillful care they provide to patients and families every day.

Johnson, who serves as House Supervisor in Broaddus Hospital’s emergency department, was nominated by the grandmother of a young patient who praised Johnson for the exceptional compassion and support she provided during a stressful situation.

“[Cieara] took care of my 2-year-old granddaughter after [the child had] a seizure and was so amazing, kind and patient,” the nomination stated. “The entire staff was super helpful, keeping our sick girl happy and comfortable.”

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through clinical expertise, compassionate care and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.

“After 16 years of nursing, 14 of that being ER, I can’t imagine doing anything else,” Johnson said. “Knowing that I helped calm a scared family and helped a sick child and that they remember me specifically is incredibly touching. Moments like that are why we do what we do.”

“Cieara’s nomination reflects the type of patient-centered care we strive to provide every day at Broaddus Hospital,” said Dana Gould, Chief Administrative Officer, Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital. “Her kindness and patience helped comfort both a young patient and her family during a frightening experience. We are proud to recognize her with this well-deserved honor.”

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease at age 33. The foundation created The DAISY Award to honor the extraordinary impact nurses have on patients and families.

Patients, families and colleagues may nominate nurses for The DAISY Award by sharing stories of how a nurse made a difference during their care experience.
