Upshur County’s active COVID cases hit highest level since early March

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 1,993 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 67 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (47), Barbour (8), Lewis (12), Randolph (21) and Webster (4) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of eight active cases in the last 24 hours. 

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 65-year old female from Kanawha County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 28, 2022, there are currently 1,993 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 7,057 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 220 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 29 currently in intensive care and three on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 12.08%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
