Man who escaped from home confinement Thursday has been recaptured

Beam

Update: According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, Beam was captured later Friday. He was listed as an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with a $150,000 cash-only bond as of Saturday morning.

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a man who escaped from home confinement late Thursday night.

“Just before midnight on March 14, 2024, Robert Carl Beam Jr., aka ‘RJ,’ cut the strap on his home confinement electronic monitoring device,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. “RJ is currently wanted for one count of escape from custody, a felony.”

Beam had just bonded out of jail on Wednesday, according to the release.

“RJ was charged on December 19, 2023, with five counts of possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a stolen vehicle and one count of possession of Bald Eagle parts,” the release states. “He was incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail until March 13, 2024, at which time he was bonded out on a modified bond of $20,000 cash/surety.”

Because of his history, law enforcement is advising that Beam may be armed and dangerous.

“Due to previous charges of wanton endangerment involving a firearm, multiple fleeing with reckless indifference in a vehicle, and multiple escapes from custody, RJ is considered to be possibly armed and dangerous,” the release states. “RJ poses an extreme danger to public safety due to reckless driving while fleeing from law enforcement.”

Anyone with information regarding Beam’s whereabouts is asked to please contact the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office at 304-472-1182 or call 911.
