Upshur County Parish House announces need for school supplies

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Upshur County Parish House is calling on the community for support as they gear up for the upcoming school year. The Parish House is currently in need of essential school supplies for the students of Upshur County, with an emphasis on items suitable for elementary to high school students.

Specifically, they are seeking donations of the following items:

  1. Backpacks for elementary school students (15 inches or larger) – character-themed and designed ones are especially popular
  2. Backpacks for middle and high school students (17 inches or larger) – items geared towards boys are particularly needed
  3. Single subject notebooks (Goal: 1,000 notebooks)
  4. Packs of loose-leaf filler paper (wide or college-ruled)
  5. Pocket folders (Goal: 1,000 folders)
  6. Glue sticks (stick form only, no bottles please)
  7. Blank index/note cards
  8. Pens
  9. Pencil sharpeners
  10. Markers
  11. Highlighters

The Parish House requests that all donations be delivered by July 21, if possible. They want to emphasize that they currently have sufficient supplies of crayons, erasers, and pencils, and encourage donations to focus on the items listed above.

Once collected, the items will be distributed at two locations:

  1. Upshur Parish House:
    • Aug. 8, from 9 am-3 pm and 4-7 pm
    • Aug. 9, from 9 am-3 pm
    • Aug. 10, from 9 am-1 pm
    • Aug. 11, from 9 am-1 pm
  2. New Distribution Site: Rock Cave United Methodist Church (located on the hill across from the Banks District Fire Department)
    • Aug. 10, from 4-7 pm
