Upshur County emergency management officials, together with the City of Buckhannon, have issued an official flood disaster information update, urging all residents to stay informed, use verified information sources and follow established procedures as community recovery efforts continue.
The update was released through the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (DHSEM), the county’s official emergency management office.
Stay informed through official channels
Residents are strongly encouraged to sign up for NIXLE alerts to receive real-time emergency notifications from Upshur County DHSEM, law enforcement and other official agencies. To sign up, text your zip code to 888777.
Officials ask residents to rely only on trusted sources for updates, including the City of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Commission, Upshur County DHSEM and Upshur County 911.
Officials also warn residents to be alert to scams. If you are contacted by anyone claiming to represent an agency or relief organization, verify the contact before sharing information or making commitments.
Centralized donation and supply drop-off center now open
The coordinated donation and supply center is fully operational at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
For standard public donations, enter the Chapel Oval from Camden Avenue. This entrance is reserved for all regular public donations.
For large trailer or bulk donations, enter the Auxiliary Gym parking lot from the lower end of College Avenue, at 151 Cebe Ross Drive. This entrance should be used only for large donations to maintain safe traffic flow.
All donated resources must be coordinated through the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management at 304-472-4983.
Documenting losses
Residents experiencing damage should document all losses and submit information through the official ArcGIS Survey123 reporting portal. Accurate reporting helps emergency officials assess needs and coordinate assistance.

To ensure efficient operations, officials ask residents to:
- Use the Chapel/Camden Avenue entrance for all standard public donations.
- Reserve the Auxiliary Gym/College Avenue entrance for large trailer-based deliveries only.
- Coordinate all offers of assistance through the Office of Emergency Management.
