Upshur County Board of Education Meeting Agenda: April 11, 2023

Christine Ann Kalafat, formerly of Buckhannon and most recently of Bridgeport, WV, passed away after suffering from a series of strokes and other ailments. She was a devoted mother and grandmother remembered for her broad smile, sharp wit, and spirited personality.

Stephen David Randall, 77, of Buckhannon, passed away on August 20, 2026. A sailor, entrepreneur, and devoted family man, he lived with curiosity, adventure, and generosity.

Terry Lee Higgins, 78, of Buckhannon, WV, died on August 21, 2026, at WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins. He was a coal mine electrician, heavy equipment operator, horse enthusiast, and devoted family man.

Upshur County officials urge flood survivors to prioritize mold remediation to prevent long-term health and structural problems. Residents should properly dry, clean and remove contaminated materials and consult EPA and NEHA guidance.

FEMA aid is already reaching July 21 flood victims in Upshur and Lewis counties, but residents must apply before the early October deadline. City leaders urged residents to visit the disaster recovery center before deciding, noting that checks are already hitting bank accounts.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital honored acute care nurse Amanda Ball with a DAISY Award for her compassionate, skillful care. A patient praised Ball’s calming presence and dedication to making patients feel heard, supported and comfortable.
