Charleston captured the 2025-26 MEC Commissioner’s Cup for overall athletic excellence, earning its ninth straight title behind a 0.978 all-sports rating and a haul of championships. West Virginia Wesleyan finished eighth in the final standings with a 0.462 rating.
Week one of the Summer Basketball League rolled on at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, with the Ball Hogs (Varsity) and Sam’s Pizza posting big wins in the Buccaneer Division.
Sam’s Pizza surged into a first-place tie with First Community Bank at 94 points in the Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League after a 27½-12½ rout of Lynx WV. First Community Bank tied Lisa Cain Edward Jones, while Evan Coffman won Low Actual (35) and Jerry Cochran took Low Net (30).
The Upshur County Historical Society’s 2026 Summer Exhibit is shining a light on the county’s artists and art teachers, from early 20th-century works to modern pieces. The show runs Sundays through September at the History Center Museum in downtown Buckhannon.
