Two more Upshur County residents die from COVID-19, DHHR reports Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 1,909 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 179 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (42), Barbour (22), Lewis (8), Randolph (14) and Webster (40) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of 14 active cases over the weekend.

Twelve additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old male from Taylor County, a 67-year old male from Upshur County, a 64-year old male from Raleigh County, a 71-year old male from Mineral County, a 45-year old male from Cabell County, a 64-year old female from Nicholas County, an 82-year old male from Hampshire County, an 89-year old male from Upshur County, a 74-year old female from Wood County, an 83-year old female from Preston County, a 79-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 68-year old male from Raleigh County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 7, 2022, there are currently 1,909 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 12 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,452 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 424 residents are hospitalized with the virus (60% unvaccinated, 40% vaccinated), with 107 currently in intensive care (75% unvaccinated, 25% vaccinated) and 57 on a ventilator (81% unvaccinated, 19% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 5.26%. 

A total of 963,577 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 414,059 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
