Two Lewis County residents among 10 COVID deaths reported in West Virginia on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 1,244 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 188 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (26), Barbour (9), Lewis (2), Randolph (9) and Webster (25) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of six active cases over the weekend.

Ten additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 58-year old female from Cabell County, an 81-year old female from Monongalia County, a 61-year old male from Preston County, an 89-year old male from Lewis County, a 60-year old male from Cabell County, a 78-year old male from Cabell County, an 82-year old female from Lewis County, an 87-year old female from Lewis County, a 79-year old male from Taylor County, and a 90-year old male from Monongalia County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 14, 2022, there are currently 1,244 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 10 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,559 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 272 residents are hospitalized with the virus (63% unvaccinated, 37% vaccinated), with 74 currently in intensive care (66% unvaccinated, 34% vaccinated) and 44 on a ventilator (68% unvaccinated, 32% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 4.04%. 

A total of 965,375 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 416,861 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
