Turkey Tales: Over the river and through the woods

My last but not least ancient family recipe. This one is from my adored granny, Clara Gaston. One day every year before Christmas was always dedicated to an afternoon of decorating sugar cookies in as many creative ways as we could imagine, and after, well, after 50 plus years, it is still the best sugar cookie ever invented!

Granny’s Famous Christmas Sugar Cookies:

Cream 1 & 1/2 cups butter with 2 cups sugar. Then add 3 eggs, 5 cups flour, and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Mix well. Dough will be stiff.

On a large, floured surface, roll out dough thinly and cut with cookie cutters. Put on ungreased cookie sheet. With brush, brush on egg mixture (1 egg mixed with 2 T cream or milk). Decorate with sprinkles and/or a mix of cinnamon and sugar (my favorite).

Bake at 400 degrees, not too long. Bet you can’t eat just one!!!
