Traffic curtailed during Weston 5K Walk/Run April 13; great weather expected

With a few days to go, organizers of the Weston 5K Run and Wellness Walk are pleased with the interest in the event to be held on Sat., April 13.

Start of the race will be at 10 a.m. that day at the corner of West Second and Center Avenue in Weston. There will also be a Wee Run for children ten years of age and under, which begins at 11 a.m. And as always, well-behaved dogs are invited to join the fun.

The weather for this Saturday’s Weston 5K looks terrific with a high of 58 degrees and low of 42 degrees and only a 0% percent chance. Residents are reminded that some streets will be closed for the race in downtown Weston.

The route will remain the same as last year. Racers will traverse a route on Main, Court, and Center Avenues. The race begins at Saint Patrick Church, and will go south on Center Avenue, taking a right onto First Street and then another right onto Main Avenue and running north to Fourth Street. At Fourth Street participants will turn right to Center Avenue and proceed to 6th Street, crossing over to Court Avenue and back to First Street, then to Center. Repeat the lap and then proceed to Court Avenue and turn right on 2nd to the finish line.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, The City of Weston, and Saint Patrick Church and School cooperate for the event.

Lewis County students from kindergarten through grade 12 can participate for a $3 pre-registration fee, which must be in by April 10. This is made possible by selling sponsors for the back of the shirts. The students should have their registration in by April 8 to enjoy the $12 savings. This is an effort to provide healthy opportunities for children.

Prizes in both the female and male contests are $150-first place; $75-second place; and $25-third place. This year there are nine age categories which include: under 11; 11-15; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+.

Corporate sponsors are WHAW, WVRW, and WOTR FM Radio, WDTV, McCarty’s, Lewis County Printing, The Citizens Bank, Giovanni’s, Theresa Snaith Hospital Auxiliary. Cost for the race is $15 pre-registration, and $20 the day of the race.

Registration forms can be found at www.stonewallhospital.com, on the second button on the page. For other information call the City of Weston at 269-6141 or SJMH at 269-8167.
