Track Bucs win 13 events in home meet

TENNERTON – Winning 13 events, the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer track and field team easily won a seven-team home meet Tuesday evening at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Bucs amassed 196 points, easily outdistancing second-place Philip Barbour who scored 69 points.

Tucker County was third with 68 points while Lewis County was fourth with 60 points and Elkins rounded out the top five with 49 points. Tygarts Valley was sixth (46 points) and Grafton was seventh (27 points).

The Bucs claimed eight individual races and once again won all five relay events.

Shawn Blandino picked up two individual wins claiming the 200-meter dash (23.71) and the 400-meter dash (52.05) while also getting victories were Taiwo Thropp in the 100-meter dash (11.57), Jordan Gillum in the 800-meter run (2:04.71), Chase Hackett in the 300-meter hurdles (46.17), Landon Zirkle in the pole vault (8-06), Dalton Crites in the shot put (39-07), and Dirk Riley in the discus throw (118-03).

The five relay wins went to Blandino, Savion Farmer, Sterlin Thropp and Taiwo Thropp in the 4×100-meter relay (45.45), Riley, Camden Snyder, Sterlin Thropp and Taiwo Thropp in the 4×200-meter relay (1:36.13), Blandino, Julien Larcher, Gillum, and Sterlin Thropp in the 4×400-meter relay (3:39.29), Gillum, Larcher, Reis Leonard and Jack Waggy in the 4×800-meter relay (8:33.52), and Hackett, Carter Zuliani, Zade Woody and Leonard in the 4×110-meter shuttle hurdle relay (1:08.74).

The Bucs took four runner-up spots as Larcher finished second in the 400-meter dash (54.05), Gillum in the 1600-meter run (4:46.61), Zuliani in the 110-meter hurdles (18.70) and Farmer in the long jump (18-06).

Buckhannon-Upshur managed three third places – Leonard in the 400-meter dash (54.49), Brycen Allen in the 300-meter hurdles (52.08) and Hackett in the long jump (18-4.5).

The Bucs were slated to run Friday at the Capitol City Classic in Charleston.

They will run again Tuesday in a home meet.
