BUCKHANNON – The annual Upshur County Public Library Ramp Dinner is just around the corner, and the cutoff to purchase tickets is coming up soon.
The library’s 31st Annual Ramp Dinner will be held April 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase until 10 a.m. April 15.
“Ticket sales are going well, and we had to have a cutoff date so we can give Fish Hawk Acres time to cook all the food for the meal,” Upshur County Public Library Director Paul Norko said. “Tickets are $28 for adults, $14 for children between six and 12, and then children under six will eat free.”
Tickets can be purchased on the library’s website, in person or over the phone at 304-473-4219, ext. 2 or 3.

“Ticket holders can carry out as well as dine in. You do have to go through the line for both of them, but with carryout, you’re given your stuff in a to-go container, so you can take it out, and you’ll have help,” Norko said. “We have help specifically dedicated to that, so you don’t have to carry everything if you’re getting a lot of dinners.”
People can request a ramp dinner or a non-ramp dinner if they prefer.
“I will say the busiest time is probably between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., but we’re serving until about 7:30 p.m., so if you want to plan your night out and come a little later, the crowd will definitely be a lot less,” Norko said. “We should have plenty of parking, because we’ll use the grass area and the hair salon next to the library.”
The menu for the dinner includes:
- Deviled eggs with pickled ramps
- Fish Hawk Acres signature baked ham (no ramps)
- Root vegetable medley (roasted carrots, turnips, parsnips, sweet potatoes, herbs & olive oil; served with & without ramps)
- Roasted spring potatoes (with & without ramps)
- Spinach salad with bacon ramp vinaigrette
- Potato & ramp chowder
- Ramp & vegetable strata (Italian quiche with spinach, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes & ramps)
- Ramp focaccia
- Apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream
“The dinner helps support the library’s programs, events and activities throughout the year,” Norko said. “It helps support our upcoming summer reading program in June, for example. Some of the funds will probably be used to purchase materials and supplies for that and other programming.”
