Three new COVID-19 cases reported in Upshur County on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 212 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including a net total of three new cases in Upshur County.

In Upshur County, the DHHR removed a probable case from Oct. 16, and added one probable and three confirmed cases to Oct. 18. The number of active cases decreased by one, to 76. The infection rate for the last seven days ticked up slightly and remains red, while the positivity percentage took a dip and is now gold on the daily map.

Free testing is available at Buckhannon-Upshur High School from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday.

For the second straight day, no new deaths were reported in West Virginia. The number of active cases, however, crossed the 5,000 mark for the first time, with 5,095 COVID-19 cases active statewide as of Monday.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 19, 2020, there have been 687,025 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 20,293 total cases and 399 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Monday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marshall, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 5,095 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 14,799 people have recovered and 399 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.21%.
