Three Bucs land on the Big 10 All-Conference soccer team

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers landed three players on the 2023 Big 10 All-Conference Soccer Team as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Freshman Riel Figueroa and junior Christian Dowell earned First Team honors while junior Slaton Kowalkoski was tabbed for the Second Team.

Figueroa was named to the First Team as a forward. In 21 games, Figueroa led the Bucs in scoring with 23 goals and five assists.

Dowell was named to the First Team as a midfielder. In 21 contests, he was second on the team in goals with 10 while adding two assists.

Kowalkoski was selected to the Second Team as a keeper. Kowalkoski started the first 18 games before missing the last three due to injury. He made 147 saves and posted 1.52 goals against average while posting two shutouts.

Kaden Meighen of Robert C. Byrd was named the Big 10 Conference Player of the Year while Keith Dumas of Bridgeport was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. Bridgeport won the conference championships.

The Bucs finished the year with a 6-12-3 overall record and a 5-4-2 mark in the Big 10, which landed them seventh out of the 12-team boy’s conference.
