My Buckhannon is proud to present another spring season of the Hank Ellis All-Stars.

Each week, we will select a male and female athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur who has had an exemplary week on the baseball or softball diamond, the track, the lacrosse field or the tennis courts.

Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the week of April 28 – May 4 are Jeremiah Jeffries and Patience Cook.

Jeffries is a junior on the Buccaneer tennis team. At the Big 10 Conference championships, Jeffries won the title at No. 4 singles. After beating Lincoln’s Gage Cottrill in his opener, he outlasted the top seed at No. 4 in Isaiah Ferrell in a marathon 9-8 (8-6 tiebreaker) win in the semis. He beat Brody White of Lewis County by an 8-4 score in the finals.

Cook is a senior on the Lady Buc tennis team. Cook defeated Kaitie Woodland of East Fairmont in her opener, then, like Jeffries, played a marathon match in the semis, getting a hard-fought 9-8 (9-7 tiebreaker) win over Makenzie Williams of Lewis County. She downed Savannah Batson of North Marion in the finals by an 8-6 score for the conference title.

Congratulations to Jeffries and Cook as our weekly winners of the Hank Ellis All-Stars honor.
