BUCKHANNON — My Buckhannon is proud to recognize another week of outstanding performances through its Hank Ellis All-Stars program, which honors Buckhannon-Upshur athletes who excel in football, soccer, cross country, volleyball and golf in the fall.
Each week, one male and one female athlete are selected based on their impact, consistency and contributions to their teams.
For the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1, the honors go to Isabella Bowers and Jimmie Green.
Bowers, a junior on the Buckhannon-Upshur girls cross country team, capped off a strong season at Saturday’s state championship meet. She was the Lady Bucs’ second finisher, crossing the line in 20:56.9 while competing against one of the state’s deepest and most talented fields. Her performance helped lead B-U to an eighth-place team finish, one spot better than projected.
Green, a senior forward on the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer team, delivered one of the most unique performances of the week. After playing for the Buccaneers in their Class AAAA South Regional quarterfinal match Monday, Green answered the call for the football team when starting kicker Aiden Snyder was sidelined by injury last week against East Fairmont.
Playing in the first organized football game of his career, Green rose to the occasion in a pivotal 30-28 victory over Preston. He connected on a 25-yard field goal and converted all three extra-point attempts, providing the difference in a game that significantly boosted the Buccaneers’ playoff hopes.
Congratulations to Bowers and Green, this week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars.
