BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another edition of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week, we will select a female and male athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur who has had an exemplary week on the basketball court, the wrestling mat, or the swimming pool.
Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the week of Dec. 11– Dec. 17 are Carter Zuliani and Maya Garcia.
Zuliani is a junior forward on the Buccaneer basketball team. He recorded double-doubles in the Buccaneers’ first two games of the season. In a loss to Class AAA No. 1 Fairmont Senior, Zuliani had a team-high 22 points and added 14 rebounds. In a win over Preston, he had a team-high 15 points (along with Jaden Westfall’s 15 points) and grabbed 14 rebounds. He is averaging 18.5 points per game and 14.5 rebounds per game after two outings.
Garcia is a sophomore on the Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling team. At the two-day Jefferson Duals, she won her 132-pound weight class in the girls’ tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. All three wins were by pinfall. She beat Abygayle Hall of Riverbend in 1:56, defeated Amaya Shock of Millbrook in 2:25 and downed Samara Pyles of East Hardy in 1:10.
