Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School’s boys placed third and the girls ninth at the East Fairmont Invitational, led by Sylas Andrews and Taylor Wright. Both cross-country teams return to action Saturday at the Forest Festival in Elkins.
Coby Smith struck three times in seven first-half minutes as Buckhannon-Upshur ended a two-match scoring drought with a 3–0 road win over University. The Bucs improved to 5–4–1 while holding a 10–2 edge in shots on goal.
Buckhannon-Upshur dominated Morgantown 35-3 in shots but needed Ella Whitehair’s 50th-minute goal to grind out a 1-0 win. Bella Nottingham made three saves for the shutout as the Lady Bucs improved to 4-3-2.
Six lost fumbles doomed Buckhannon-Upshur as Elkins turned four turnovers into touchdowns in a 55-14 rout. The Tigers amassed 502 yards, including 468 rushing, while Jaden Hatfield ran for 216 yards and Seth Robinson scored three times.
West Virginia’s PSC joined National Truck Driver Appreciation Week by thanking drivers at an I-64 weigh station and sharing safety resources. The annual event honors truckers’ vital role in communities and the economy while promoting roadway safety.
