Texie Maxine (Koon) Thorn

Texie Maxine (Koon) Thorn, age 96, of Tallmansville, WV, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, WV.

She was born November 11, 1926, in Queens, WV, a daughter of the late Jesse Koon and Elsie Clapper Franklin. On May 28, 1949, she married George R. Thorn who preceded her in death on July 30, 2007. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Cliff, Carl, Eugene “Harry” and Lawrence Koon; one sister, Betty Scott and one infant sister, Mildred Koon.

She is survived by one son, Eugene Thorn and wife Sandy of Tallmansville; one brother, Claude Koon and wife Donnac of Salem, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thorn was a member of the Cornerstone Church of God in Buckhannon, WV and the Queens United Methodist Church in Queens, WV. Mrs. Thorn was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion, Queens Historical Club, and Tallmansville Homemakers Club. She was an excellent cook and avid gardener who loved to keep her family, friends, and neighbors fed. She was also a talented quilter, knitter, sewer and crocheter.

Friends will be received Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor John Darnall officiating. A burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery in Queens, WV.
