Teenager, juvenile killed after wrecking motorcycle during police chase

CHARLESTON — On Thursday, March 16, 2023, at approximately 2:50 pm, Sgt. D. P. White was conducting road patrol on US Route 19, according to a press release from the W.Va. State Police.

While utilizing a dash mounted radar, Sgt. White observed a motorcycle traveling at a speed of 120 mph. Sgt. White activated his patrol vehicle’s lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.  

During an ensuing pursuit, the motorcycle traveled from US route 19 onto Youngs Monument Road, then back onto US Route 19, where it struck a log truck. The driver of the motorcycle, Devon Brantley, 19 of Birch River, W.Va. and his juvenile female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. Both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased on scene.

The status of this investigation is active and ongoing.
