Surveillance testing underway at Wesleyan, follows 852 tests that garnered six positive COVID-19 cases

BUCKHANNON, WV – With six positive COVID-19 cases identified from 852 administered polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests – registering a .7 percent positivity rate – West Virginia Wesleyan College is now segueing to surveillance testing of students to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. Wesleyan’s testing program is part of the State of West Virginia’s broader efforts to address the coronavirus.

“As we continue to this next phase of our work to slow the spread of COVID-19, we encourage our campus community to remain vigilant: wear a mask, social distance and practice good hand hygiene. We cannot let our guard down now,” said John Bohman, Director of Campus Safety and Security at West Virginia Wesleyan.

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, Wesleyan has required students to follow strict on-campus policies, including limiting travel outside of Upshur County, altering co-curricular activities to lessen physical interaction and reconfiguring classrooms and labs to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

“The College is committed to delivering a successful Spring 2021 Semester; it will take all of us doing our part to make it a reality,” Bohman said.

The College makes real-time updates on its website – wvwc.edu – for both active and recovered COVID-19 cases. Students who are on campus and have questions or think they may have COVID-19, should text Wesleyan’s COVID-19 Response Hotline: (304) 473-8274.
