Steve Gillespie, 70, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Monday, September 6, 2021, at his home.

He was born September 20, 1950, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Lowell and Marietta Snow Gillespie.

On March 18, 1972, he married Opal Bennett of Buckhannon who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Melissa Marie Roberts and husband Travis of Huntington, W.Va.; one son, Steven Gillespie Jr. and wife Jennifer of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Shylee Marie Roberts of Huntington; two sisters, Rosetta Kelley and husband Ed of Beverly, W.Va. and Barbara Lea Jent and husband Larry of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Snow Gillespie and wife Sue and Matthew Paul Gillespie and wife Rena all of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Bandit and Gabby.

Mr. Gillespie was a Methodist by faith and a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid WVU and Marshall fan and loved artwork and woodworking. Above all Steve loved his family dearly.

Friends will be received Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Jent officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, W.Va. The Upshur County Honor Guard will provide military honors at the graveside.
